Bright plum-red colour; fresh, ripe bramble fruits on the nose, followed by vanilla and cedar. Soft, easy tannin with bright acidity, and medium weight. The finish is crisp and fresh. Enjoy now for maximum fruitiness.
Winemaker's Notes:
This Gamay was sourced from the Foxcroft Vineyard on the Twenty Mile Bench. At the end of a long, cool growing season, clean, ripe fruit was hand-harvested, then graded and sorted to select the best quality fruit. Fermented in four tonne lots with temperatures reaching 30ºC for 12 hours. After 10 days on the skins, the wine was gently pressed and sent to neutral barrels for malolactic fermentation and eleven months of ageing. Bottled on March 17, 2006 under Stelvin® closure. Drink now until 2009.
Food Pairings:
This easygoing, enjoyable grape goes very well with food. Serve with antipasto-type starters like cured meats, and semi-hard cheeses. Carries through to all your favourite barbequed meats including burgers (beef or veggie), lamb, ribs and chops. If you want to drink red regardless, the supple tannins make this the red wine to choose for turkey, chicken or fish. A great summer-weight red.
Wine Reviews:
"Lively, gutsy, bright, bitter, challenging. I love it. While the flavours may have you thinking of a hearty dinner, the spirit is brisk and refreshing. So plan a summer evening on the patio with appetizers and chit chat. Lightly chill. Gamay is our great local summer red." - Billy Munnelly
